Wounded Warrior Project
October 2010. Computer Science Corporation (CSC) and Metters St. Louis employees continue their effort of charitable support. This quarter’s charity was the WoundedWarriors Project.
The mission of the Wounded Warrior Project is to honor and empower wounded warriors - to raise awareness and enlist the public's aid for the needs of severely injured service men and women and provide unique, direct programs and services. The resulting objective is to provide tangible support for the severely wounded and help them on the road to healing, both physically and mentally.

This charity was recommended by a veteran helicopter pilot returning from combat in Afghanistan who had first-hand knowledge of some of the benefits to our warriors.
On August 25, 2010 there was a raffle of donated items, including a VISA gift card, BBQ grill and a BBQ Tool set, an American flag kit, and a variety of other items. As luck would have it, Metters’ St. Louis employee Jim Will was the lucky winner.
So far we have collected $950 and there is a planned “Paid Dress Down” day that will add to the total collected for this worthwhile project. Their work has struck a chord with the St. Louis workforce who has a long history of support to the Army and all our armed forces.
Nurses for Newborns Foundation
The Nurses for Newborns Foundation exists to provide a safety net for families most at-risk through home visits by experienced, registered nurses who provide healthcare and resources and teach positive parenting skills. The overall goal is to prevent child abuse, neglect, and infant mortality.
Nurses for Newborns Foundation provides services to babies who are born with medical problems, born to teen moms, or born to mothers with disabilities/mental health concerns, or who are born into families who do not have money for even basic necessities.
Metters and CSC personnel started 2010 with a Valentine’s Day Raffle that included a variety of goodies for someone’s sweetheart, including: candy, wine, a gift card, and picture frames. What makes these gifts even more special was that they were donated by our fellow employees. As luck would have it, the first prize was won by Metters employee Bill Day and the second prize was won by a CSC employee.
Between the Raffle and a St Patrick’s Day “Dress-Down” day, where employees pay a fee for the privilege of wearing casual clothes (jeans – tennis shoes) on a work day, the Team has already collected over $1,000 for Nurses for Newborns.

Operation Holiday Cheer
For the third year in a row, Metters, Orlando, served as the collection point for “Operation Holiday Cheer!” in December. Operation Holiday Cheer is a campaign organized every year by the local chapter of the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) to collect and distribute items to Central Florida deployed soldiers.
Local companies placed collections boxes in their business during October and early November. AUSA provided a suggestion list of necessities, treats, and gifts that the employees could donate for the soldiers. All of those collection boxes (as well as individual donations) were delivered to Metters, where they were compiled and organized. Members of the ROTC unit from the University of Central Florida picked up the donations and transported the items to a local National Guard armory. At the armory, volunteers created individual gift boxes to be shipped overseas. The picture right shows Metters employees and members of the ROTC loading the donations for transport.
Metters St Louis Final 2009 Charity Event
Year 2009 was another successful year for the St. Louis Metters team. In partnership with CSC, we sustained the legacy Army CCSS Logistics system and assisted in the second deployment of the new Logistics Modernization Program to AMCOM Air and Missile in Huntsville, Al.
Along with our CSC partners we supported our Charitable Activities Committee’s (CAC) four quarterly charities: Nurses for Newborns, the Ronald McDonald House, Project Compassion, and the St. Patrick Center Holiday Program. In addition to gifts and items donated, a total of over $4,900 was collected this year. Since the inception of our CAC program in 2004, over $36,000 plus gifts and items have been distributed.
For the December 2009 Holiday Season, we again supported the St. Patrick Center in St. Louis. The center provides assistance, housing, counseling, and job training for homeless and jobless individuals and families. This year we pledged to support 20 families of 4 and an additional 15 Seniors, a total of 90 people, with clothing, gifts, and gift cards. We exceeded our commitment. Wrapped gifts for the St. Patrick Center families were boxed and each large box represented a family of four. It took three vehicles to deliver all of the boxes. Volunteers at St. Patrick delivered the boxes to each family. Six hundred dollars in gift cards for Seniors and checks totaling nearly $1,200 were also delivered. The generosity and caring of our organization certainly helped make the holidays brighter for these needy folks.
